Project Background, aim, what lies ahead & how you can help

Video is one of the most powerful media to communicate ideas and facts. A group of parents, proud of their sons and daughters with Down's Syndrome felt the pressing need for a video, or a set of videos that will be helpful in
  • Showing the reality of children and adults with Down's syndrome growing among their families and society. Demonstrating what is possible and achievable.
  • Dispelling the misinformed opinions and prejudices by explaining the facts and practical advice
  • Giving an insight to the parents, prospective parents, relatives, carers and care professionals who want to do their best.
  • Giving enjoyment and justifiable pride to children and adults with Down's syndrome.
This first video addresses the transition from school to college and we are now seeking funding for further steps in this important project. In order to produce a video that will do justice to the subject we need to invest several thousand £££. (Good videos can cost as much as £1000 per minute of final product we see). We are getting feedback that more of such quality videos covering other aspects and age ranges will be well appreciated and widely used in supporting the aims and objectives of Down's Syndrome Association.

We need your help in identifying potential sponsors and donors who could provide funding in cash and/or kind. Although our aim continues to be to produce a comprehensive set of videos addressing all the audiences our pragmatic approach has been to produce one video at a time aimed at a more limited target audience to fit the limited resources we get, without lowering the quality. This step by step approach would eventually build a full set.

With the success of this first video we believe this is a good approach to produce subsequent videos and similar useful resources.

How can you help us in making this idea into reality ? Can you get some keen and substantial further sponsors ? What topics do you think should be addressed ?

Please send your comments and ideas to video subcommittee members by email , phone or letter.
