We are pleased to be hosting a full day conference covering behavioural issues, Numicon and speech and language therapy. This is open to our members and all those interested in helping children with Down’s syndrome to achieve their full potential.

Opening address
Paul Everington, Chairman of downsyndrome OK, will welcome delegates and give the opening address
Behavioural Issues with Linda Lopez, head of Portage services for Sutton
Using her wealth of experience from working with children of all ages, Linda will educate the delegates how best to prevent and rectify behaviour problems. The workshop will look at strategies to develop positive behaviour for children, young people and adults, through group activities and discussion.
The Numicon approach to teaching numeracy with Romey Tacon.
Romey is a teacher and one of the co-authors of Numicon – a multi-sensory approach to teaching number. In the workshop she will explain the rationale for the Numicon approach and how the system can be used to support children who have Down’s syndrome. There will be opportunities to try out materials and ask questions.
Speech and Language Therapy with Symbol UK
Symbol UK is an organisation that specialises in delivering speech and language therapy for people with learning disabilities and has expert knowledge of the specific barriers to communication that are common in children with Down’s syndrome.
Places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
The cost is £15 per person which includes a cold buffet lunch. Please advise us of any special dietary requirements. No crèche available
